The emerging political scandal involving the president's nephew and slot machines has shed light on Korea's fast-growing gambling industry and the social problems it creates.

Therese Mahan won $150,000 after purchasing a $15 Double Action scratch ticket from the Jacksons on Chinden Boulvard in Garden City.

Mahan says she plays scratch tickets a couple of times per week, but had never purchased one for more than $5.

The Powerball lottery game produced a big winner on the night of the first drawing in North Carolina, in late May: Someone won $200,000 right off the bat.

Lottery officials said the winning ticket was bought at the Wilco gas station on U.S. 1 in Aberdeen, near Pinehurst. But more than 11 weeks later, no one has claimed the prize.
