Craps is considered a truly American game, although its roots may be traced to several European dice games. Craps peaked in popularity shortly after the return of GIs from World War II. During the '40s and '50s, Craps was the premier game in most casinos. Since the early 1960s, however, games like Blackjack and Slots have taken over the top gaming spot in most American casinos. However, many people still consider Craps to be the most exciting game the casino has to offer. A typical Craps table is run by four casino employees: the Stickman, who is responsible for calling dice rolls, keeping the game moving, and returning the dice to the shooter after each roll; the Boxman, who is in charge of all money that comes in and goes out of the game; and one dealer for each end of the table. The dealers are responsible for placing and clearing bets and paying off winning bets. Being vocal and trading barbs with the dealers at the table is a fun and social tradition of this American dice game.
